Salton Sea has been kept alive by runoff irrigation water from the Mecca/Coachella farming area
but with reduced watering the results are obvious. Desal is the only way (other than ten wet years)
that the sea will ever return to years ago levels. If if the Colorado was breached (original way
the sea was formed) it'd barely get the beach wet. This isn't really all that new, I can remember
walking across the Colorado at Ehrenburg (AZ) with my ankles barely getting wet many years ago.
