1. When you get off your Amtrak train at Los Angeles Union Station, proceed to the underground concourse, and walk towards Union Station, following signs to "Metro Red Line"
2. At the end of the concourse as you enter Union Station, you will basically make a U-Turn to your right, walking around Wetzel's Pretzels. Enter the Metrolink concourse.
3. Buy a TAP Card and your fare. Your fare is $1.75 for a one-way ticket, plus $1 for the reusable TAP card. (Don't lose it, you can use it again and again.) Or, if you plan on riding more transit throughout the day, consider a $7 day pass. You must have a TAP card for each person so if you are travelling in a group, you'll buy a TAP card for each person with their fare.
4. Proceed to the Red Line, and board a train - either the Red Line train to North Hollywood, or Purple Line train to Wilshire/Western. You will ride the train THREE stops to 7th/Metro and get off the train there.
5. At 7th/Metro, get off the Red/Purple Line, and locate the Blue Line. You will go up one level, as the Blue Line crosses over the Red/Purple Line (while still underground.) Make sure you do NOT board an Expo Line train, whose trains use a light blue color.
6. Ride the Blue Line train all the way to Long Beach. It's 22 miles so you'll be on the train for about 45 minutes or so. Enjoy the ride.
