The Blue Line is the most patrolled part of Metro Rail by the LACO Sheriff. You may have up to 8 cameras looking at you at any time. Certain Stations, in some rough neighborhoods can be dangerous, but these stations also have up to 8 cameras covering approaches, platforms, and parking. You ain't going to score something illegal, so you probably won't need to get off at those stations, where those activities might be prevalent.
I've been on the Blue Line at all hours, without problems, numerous times. And, I've had many friends and colleagues who used it, for years, and all of them made it without ever having any incident. It's no more dangerous than riding through that place who's name I can't utter without setting of a troll storm, on that "evil" BART system, up north, to get to Livermore.
You are going through some of the poorest neighborhoods in LA, with lots of Central American immigrant neighborhoods, and you will be offered cheap watches, strange candy, and chewing gum to buy. So just ignore them, and they're fine. However, in comparison to riding the Blue Line, you are probably more likely to be shot in a road rage incident driving to the park & ride, especially in a couple of these neighborhoods.... and you're definitely in more statistical danger of crashing in your car.
