So I am going to ask here as I haven't asked elsewhere yet.
For any of you out there who have old railroad radio background or know of someone who did, can anyone shed some light on the manufacturer of these old VHF antennas seen below? (I figured since we were talking about old equipment found on 'that' site I figured "Why not!"
I believe this is what was referenced to me a long time ago as a "Coffee Can on a card table" antenna.
I am pretty familiar with just about every railroad locomotive/caboose/ROW antenna out there past and present (Firecracker, Linebacker/Ice Skate [Excaliber], Wagon wheel, etc...) and the various companies that have produced them over the years (Farnsworth, Antenna Specialists, Sinclair, Sti-Co, Kathrein, ZCG, Skymasts, Techninova, etc...), but this one of two in my list to find any information about. I have seen photos of them on ATSF, UP, IC, GM&O to name a few.
Since were on the topic, here is the other VHF one that may have been lost to history.
This one was seen on the roofline of a UP business car in Portland a few years ago. I have seen photos of them on a New Haven switcher.
Please, if you know anyone who used to be in the industry for the railroads and or antenna manufacturing, pass this link on to them and let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
