The first photo is what is known as a ground plane antenna. A whip either 1/4 or 5/8 wavelength long extended up from the round can in the center of the ground plane. In some cases a coil of wire was part of the whip to make it electrically longer than physical length although in this case the coil probably is inside the can. The antenna can be either VHF or UHF.

The second photo is what is known as a dipole antenna. From the dimensions it probably is a UHF antenna.
