Didn't those alternate sections end up with the SP land co., which eventually became Catellus after the SPSF debacle? Before Anshutz' time, of course.
Google land indications are not legal descriptions. The alternate sections may still be there, but within an overall National Forest boundary which Google might entirely color as green. As an alternative, consider OpenStreetMap (e.g. [
www.openstreetmap.org]) which is still not definitive but seems to get into more details regarding things like that.
