Rail for UP now comes in as 40 foot,80 foot and 480 foot to port Stockton CA the 80 foot and 40 foot all go to track and curve projects and for making things like switch points and frogs and the 480 foot is welded into 1440 foot strings so 2 welds per string the load on rail trains for use around the UP system Go to Holland Company web site to see wedging of rail in action in Stockton www.hollandco.com or you tube video of the rail plant on fixed rail welding facility Stockton CA
