Re: Ownership? Math? And Trains sure do suck, don't they?

After listening to this huge pile of hyper-drivel, and several other threads along this same vein; it becomes very hard not to conclude, that what really sucks; is the State of California itself.

Certainly not the land though - it's a beautiful and grand place. Certainly not the weather - the Mediterranean climate is priceless. Certainly not the relatively EASY living either. And certainly not the trains, and all those great train watching hotspots! Certainly not any of these things. As I look back on my time there, I miss these things.

But Oh the extremist politics! And the omnipresent absurdities! Boy am I lucky I took my fixed income somewhere else, where you can still live on such a thing while remaining more or less self-reliant. Where marauding "occupiers" (anarchists) do not regularly destroy neighborhood civility, while also threatening and intimidating all who oppose them.

Where they still allow the legislature to actually legislate; governing all tax expenditures by constitutional appropriation. Where the legislature is actually willing to govern without the need for all these very poorly written, always draconian propositions. How many were there? - MY G...!

Where officials are still sensitive to the financial limitations of their citizens. Where tax rates are not beyond the point of diminishing returns. Yes there are many such states in the union where this is more or less so. Where bills that pass are actually reasonable, well debated, vetted, and the result of good compromise - none of which can ever happen with "government by proposition".

Propositions are a very poor way of governing. And let's face it; the Founding fathers were wise enough to learn from history; opting for representative government rather than for direct democracy, which has not once ever worked for long. Certainly not well enough to avoid a complete collapse, while still relatively new. Apparently, too many Californians have been so dumbed down, as to lack such wisdom.

For these reasons alone, voting NO on most if not all of these always draconian propositions makes some sense. The hope being that the legislature will be forced to step up and do its duty.

One thing is certain: if these profound absurdities continue, California WILL NOT avoid collapse either! It's beginnings are already visible to many, especially out of state - and certainly not just in these puerile threads.
