A major part of the reason it was cut up while the others were not is ownership. The #70 was one of only two locomotives the North Coast Railroad owned, the other being the former Arcata & Mad River #104...NCRA bought both of them when they purchased the Eureka Southern from the bankruptcy court in 1992. The railroad leased all of the other power. Thus, when the City of Eureka issues its nuisance abatement order, the owner of the other geeps stored there decided he wanted to try moving them out. NCRA had no place to move the #70, and after 15 years of rusting to the rails in the same place there wasn't much left to save anyway, so it went to razorblades.
