SMART's board instructed the GM to put a design-build contract for the Larkspur Extension out to bid. In something of reversal of course, the board said that the Larskpur ferry connection was a major piece in the SMART train, despite only 150 riders being projected to use the Larkspur station. Many concerned San Rafael citizens felt quite concerned that there was going to be so much new traffic thanks to this extension for the sake of 150 riders to Larkspur.
San Rafael thinks they are getting the short end of the stick here, and are finding it quite pointy.
The news sparked a conflagration in the Marin IJ's comments section.
San Rafael's mayor said that several in San Rafael seriously questioned the wisdom of extending the train across the rest of the Mission City's main streets. But it's happening and there it is.
