It's a good thing I was young and tough! I rode the North Coast Limited from Auburn WA to St. Paul in the spring of 1967. It was 68 degrees in Auburn when I boarded and went to my roomette. The 2nd night out, in eastern Montana or North Dakota, it was well below zero. I like to have a bit of fresh air, so had the vent open a bit. Not only did the steam heat line freeze, the vent froze open and we then hit a skunk! I spent the rest of the night in the Vista Dome! In spite of this, it was one of my best train rides. It was -7 when we arrived in St. Paul.
