I sort of wondered what might have caused an 8-hour delay between 2 stations in N Dakota ...

transitdocs might want to add a national weather or radar layer to their Amtrak status map, similar to what flightaware has. Granted, weather is more important for airplanes, but it can also explain a lot of train delays especially in the winter.
