I suspect a computer glitch. These are unreserved trains so load management isn't possible. I just tried to make a reservation using tomorrow's date and the system worked. (Tickets are good for a year, unless they are part of a promotion with shorter time limits, and the date one enters is just the first day the ticket can be used.)
