Once upon a time I was sold a ticket in the lounge car for a peak-period train from SLO to SF (bus from Oakland 16th St.). Conductor called ahead when ready to depart from Santa Barbara with number of seats available and SLO ticket agent saw that there were about 3 more (including me) than there were seats. So we were squeezed in. No, that didn't include free drinks ... and it was very early Amtrak with mostly SP people still running the show and mostly SP equipment.
