Bidirectional Em Gap to Truckee after circa 1967.

I've always wondered whether a maximum-tonnage westward train was better off on track 1 or track 2. If it stayed on track 1, the climb west of Eder wasn't any worse than what preceded it-- right? But if they were down to 10 mph before entering Tunnel 41, they were in trouble?

The 2012 timetable says westward trains making less than 12 mph at MP 202.5 weren't supposed to enter Tunnel 41 without someone's OK. Hard to see why they picked that spot for a speed check.
