Scrapping Steam

Now it's time to start ignoring "Russel".
I came across an article on how the steam locomotives were not built to serve their needs correctly and thus, the railroad industry couldn't compete with the newer "road locomotives (ie. FT)" properly. Using today's technology, the advantage of steam would have lasted up to 20 years later than it did.
Issues like the size of the drivers, length of trains and efficiancy of the steam locomotives were discussed in detail, and because of the lack of crucial testing, the locomotive manufacturers and purchasers made the steam locomotive industry collapse. It made the transition into diesel much easier, and quicker.
What do you think?
