Railroads used to be the ultimate recyclers, just about anything of value was reused at least once. Locomotives made by EMD are good for several go rounds before they finally go off to the scrap heap. Sadly we have so many laws, often of questional value, we now are forced to throw things away because it is no longer economically feasable to reuse them. I know it's nice to try and make cabs safer, but you can only do so much---a head on between two coal trains, it just isn't gonna be good no matter what you do to the cab and I hate to see lines die because we can't buy locomotives to run on them---hey wait a minute, no trains, no collisions, yeah, they really are safer!!
