[size=large][/size]A friend had suggested putting the
high-speed rail line near the California Aqueduct, and
running the Aqueduct in the same general tunnel the
train would run through --- would save energy now used
to pump the water over the mountains..
Would that work? sounded like a good
possibility to me.

I also firmly believe that what we really need is
what OPB suggested: improve what we already have
to modern standards, put cab signals on all trains,
and run a truly good rail service. Then ---- and only
then --- do you put in HSR.

As another person said, we also must deal with the
continual problem caused by the convicted felons who
are released onto the San Joaquins and sent to their
homes via Amtrak.
