I thought in earlier threads it was stated that the bridge over the Pajaro(?) River was damaged by the '89 earthquake and had to be replaced before rail traffic could run on the line. Obviously that isn't true. So the big roadblocks to the line being used is lack of cooperation by UP and that the line stops short of a reasonable terminal location? Of course to run any worth while passenger operation on it a huge chunck of change needs to be spent to replace ties and bring the line up to class 3 or better condition. If Monterey County wants to do anything with the line they should start by establishing a reason to run freight on it to get something in return for their investment.
