Why do some people insist that SMART will fail? Every commuter rail system that has been developed in the past 10 years is surpassing ridership estimates. Also, SMART isn't targeting only those commuters to go into San Francisco. Thousands of commuters travel from Sonoma County residences into Southern Marin for jobs. These make up a large part of the 101 corridor conjestion. It is these commuters that SMART seeks to divert from their cars to rail.
