Using the new wye would include having more movements than necessary. More than likely will deadhead north tender first up into the sharp 'Thunderbird' 'S' curve, then move forward onto the Steel Bridge. Just in reverse of what the Builder does on a daily basis.
Using the new wye, there isn't a direct connection anymore from the Graham line to the Steel Bridge as that disappeared just after the Pioneer was killed off. Any wying movement will have to involve the S curve anyway.
Not too sure why the questions. The 844 and Challenger have both gone through those curves without issue.
