well that's interesting...
Amtrak has nothing in its Alerts regarding the Starlight, but several people have reported here that their trips have been cancelled and that Amtrak has issued refunds for travel on the Starlight for some time into the future.
Amtrak train status (http://asm.transitdocs.com/)was shows yesterday's NB Starlight with no stops beyond Sacramento; presumably annulled there. Yesterday's SB Starlight is on time at Martinez, but started in Portland (line blocked between Seattle and Portland again?) and shows no station stops between Klamath Falls and Sacramento (did it detour or was that a Night Bus for the passengers, using #14's equipment heading back south?). Can't tell for sure using public information.
Going forward ... Cascades are still there for Seattle-Eugene. San Joaquins can get you between Bay Area/Sac and LA, and there's Thruway bus (Cal Amtrak) Sac to Redding. So the major spot that would be missing some kind of service if Amtrak just drops the train completely would be Klamath Falls. Again, no announcement = no information unless there's an insider lurking here.
