Thanks for the info about the old easy-to-use
access road, and the new one. Sigh.....
And, yes, these classic bridges have not been made
for a long, long time, so there are no longer any "spare
parts" around. A post on TO said the UP would need a
"donor bridge" in order to repair the old bridge. They
will almost certainly replace this badly-damaged classic
bridge with a new plain-jane concrete deck bridge, even
though that will require them to wade through a lot of
paperwork. It is just work; no big deal. they will deal
with that and get on with business.
I am glad there are at least a few of the old classic bridges
left on the Shasta Line.
