By all means consult the bridge site 2472 cited
The pins are smooth within the joints, threaded outside for the keeper nut
The intermediate diagonals are 'Eyebars"
As far as pinned v rivetted [fixed] joints, it was a matter of analytical tools-
Fixed joints induce secondary stresses that were a @#$%& to evaluate. The only example that comes to mind is the UP bridge over the 101 at Ventura, but there's gotta be more in a neighborhood nearer you.
Can't wait to see what UP tries [first?]
