I am not a huge SMART fan but to there credit they have put miles and miles of fencing in. What makes SMART different then say Caltrains is the SMART tracks where inactive, unused vacant walking paths and short cuts for many years. The last train to San Rafael was in 1985. A promised bike path leads others to think there is plenty of room to walk besides the track.
The homeless (we used to call them bums, politically incorrect) problem north of Payran Petaluma is almost non existing thanks to fencing and responsive policing.
The way the SMART trains are designed with the operator sitting low centered in the cab right over the windshield the fatalities will be graphic.
