A less expensive solution for smart would be to install snow plows to each lead unit. It worked well for the likes of the d&rgw. How many bums, dumb kids, jogging yuppies, etc., have you seen pictures of after stupidly confronting an oncoming train? Those protected ones who trespass, or have been trespassing, along the row will just be swooped off of the row as the trains roll by. Good photo op, at least.
