I have to disagree with ole BOB2. While Bostain may be not be guilty of a crime, he just as well may be. A court is the proper place to decide and the charges sought by the family were allowed by law. In looking at the charging paperwork from the Attorney General it seems one charge is a felony. He went above what was asked by the family.
The 8 dead, 200 injured and their loved ones deserve their day in court. Here is your money, it was just an accident isn't good enough for them. The NTSB investigation didn't really answer any questions about why the train was going twice the speed limit. A trial might get some answers the NTSB couldn't come up with. Of course, Bostain can refuse to testify if he chooses.
I don't think Bostain has done himself any favor by hiding out since the wreck. They are still using an old photo of him as a conductor. It is easy to hate someone that you have never seen or heard speak and caused so much suffering. Seems kind of cruel to refer to the victims as a ignorant mob. Did he ever say he was sorry?
