That shot might be the last southbound Lark. By then the typical consist of the Lark was down to 6 cars (baggage, 10-6 sleeper, automat, lounge (?), and a couple of coaches), which would be an easy pull for the SDP45. The last Lark was 16 cars long, so the FP7 was probably required for additional boiler capacity and maybe to assist the train over Cuesta.
