Tunnel #6 under E Street in VC is a project that is all but dead. A few timbers are visible behind the depot in Virginia City today. The Nevada Commission to Rebuild the V&T and Story County had planned on rebuilding the tunnel with a cut and fill project contingent on acquiring the Freight House and property north of the tunnel in town. That has not happened, although some planning work and drilling to locate voids in the old tunnel in front of the Catholic Church has been done. The county had money set aside but other matching funds never materialized. Talk to some in the county and the project still has legs. Talk to the V&T and the railroad ends where it does today.
