Railroads are in NO WAY covered by Workmens Compensation...we couldn't get it if we wanted! Instead, as previously stated, we are covered by FELA and part of our "self-insurance" is a deductible on our Railroad Liability Insurance Policy (in our case $20,000) in which we are responsible for an injury up to $20 grand and the insurance pays up to the limits of the policy.
As such, it is to our advantage to provide a safe workplace. Twenty-six years without a reportable FRA accident or in jury must mean we're on the right track.
