When they started showing up on CSX, it didn't take long for the nickname "Furby" to follow, at least in Georgia. That was also a very popular stuffed collectible critter that was all the rage at the time, which likely stimulated the origin of the nickname. I actually heard a CSX engineer call one a Furby before railfans adopted the name.
