Just as info, the train came in to the Bay Area by way of Altamont Pass. There is no direct connection at Lathrop for a train coming up the Fresno line to head over Altamont. Now obviously if they wyed the entire train at Lathrop the train would still be traveling as it was loaded (correctly or incorrectly). On the other hand, if somebody made the decision to run the power around the train, or just to wye the power itself, as I believe the units were running elephant style well, there would be the source of the problem right there.

There seems to be a bunch of speculation about who is to blame, what happened, etc. I don't have any info on any of this, I'm just pointing out one possibility I have yet to see anyone mention.
