Been thinking a lot about where I want to live after I quit working (65-ish or sooner), though it's a ways off. Criteria include:
- the chance to volunteer doing rail-related stuff,
- being away from big city problems,
- being away from high-tech culture, rich people and materialistic culture,
- being in a mostly nice climate.
First draft is below.
Any other places to consider?
1. Medford, OR (or Klamath Falls, or Ashland). The rail park in Medford is neat, they can use volunteers and plus it's fun meeting the public and watching young people have a great time.
2. Independence, CA. A little isolated, but the SP narrow gauge stuff around there is fun and there is work to be done with the Laws group. Seem like nice guys too.
3. Tucson. There's a trolley preservation group there. Other non-rail volunteer opportunities, also some good outdoor clubs.
4. ?
