March 26, 1902 The Morning Echo (Bakersfield) (5:3) - "Engines 2914 and 2916 will be taken to Sacramento today to be thoroughly overhauled at the Southern Pacific shops there. They have become worn out and need extensive repairs."
March 27, 1902 The morning Echo (5:3) - "Two of the large freight engines that run over the mountain were taken to Sacramento for repairs yesterday. They will be used out of Sacramento or be sent to the Salt Lake division. They were of the 2914 and 2916 type."
I have no actual confirmation that the engines were subsequently used out of Sacramento or on the Salt Lake Division.
