GE sold its soul back in the 1990s when it started divesting its consumer businesses, became a bank (GE Capital), licensed its name and logo to anyone who could fog a mirror, and branched out into all sorts of companies having nothing to do with the E in General Electric.
Today the only thing GE makes on its own are locomotives, aircraft engines, some medical equipment, and some oil & gas exploration stuff it bought from another company. The LED lights that you see at your favorite store that say "GE"? Nope, they aren't made by GE. The appliances sold at Home Depot or Lowes or Sears with the GE Logo? They're now made by Haier, a Chinese company. The electrical stuff? All licensed out to different companies.
I think right now, GE is in breakup mode, just like Westinghouse. The only difference is Westinghouse bought CBS and CBS is the legal successor having sold all of its manufacturing assets (CBS still owns the Westinghouse name and logo); while GE already sold off NBC.
