Good thougth and I’m sure they tried by making sure they were on Eugene or Overland trains, but SP was always critically short on power and San Francisco did not want the rest of the Pacific Lines hurting for power because someone wanted a Donner pool. And as it always happens, they ended up on the flat lands of TX, or SW and not on Donner
