Espee bought 247 SD-45T-2 Tunnel Motors, and 145 SD-40T-2 Tunnel Motors, an amount far in excess of their needs on Donner Pass. Remember too, that Tehachapi, Cascades, and Siskiyou also had tunnels. As noted by BOB2 above, the tunnel motors were good all - around locomotives, at least until Espee's deferred maintenance of the late 1970's caught up with them.
