I remember my mother driving us from Marin to Richmond on the car ferry a few times in order to get to Piedmont. I would beg a bag of popcorn and go back down to the car deck, find a access opening and watch those steam engines pushing those rods to the wheel. Then a few years later the "Grand Opening" of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge was 25 cents and the R & SR one was 75 cents. But then again, gas was between 15 to 22 cents a gallon.
