Yes, but no additional or fewer deaths have been added prior to 2015. Current fatality statistics for highways at the site visited, are still not official for 2016, the numbers for 2016 & 2017 had an asterisk next to them stating this. Traffic deaths since 1970 were listed by year and did not want to add them all up, or spend more time digging. Looking at those numbers taking a conservative average of 40,000 per year that would be around 1.88 million.
I found the USA Today article because of curiosity as to the total Amtrak fatalities and figured it would suffice to make a point.
