I agree… it just makes sense to have the SP 4449 represent the Western side of the route. UP could pair the 4449 up with their UP 1996 Heritage Unit and even add the CP herald to the aux tender. UP would not be what it is today without CP/SP with all the rail miles they acquired in 1996 in the west. (Oregon, California, etc.) Personally I believe it would be a huge PR move to include the Daylight since this is a rare major milestone in the railroads history and it is all one huge family now. They could start with a kick off celebration in Sacramento at the Railroad Museum and 4449 and train could depart east… and on the UP end have a kick off celebration in Omaha with newly restored UP 4014 before starting its journey east. Having the two locomotives arrive in Ogden nose to nose would be amazing and an event that would be remembered for generations.
If SP 4449 is being considered or in the works, it would be very hush hush and I highly doubt there would be any mention of this until early 2019 once all trip details and agreements were in place. The double header with UP 844 and SP 4449 was not announced until early 2007 once all details were confirmed for the trip.
