Oh, so you were referring to the number of cable and / or chain load restraints. Got it.
Jeff, much of the turnover in the big nationwide truckload companies ( Swift, Hunt, Schneider, Werner,, et al ) is due to 2 factors : Recruiters who lie to the driver, and " the grass is greener " syndrome. The 2 are somewhat related, though the Grass is Greener deal is also stoked by drivers bragging on the CB radio about " how great everything is at MY company. " The recruiter deal is just what it is: recruiters are paid by how many butts they put in the seats. Lying about pay, hours, miles, Home Time, are all fair game. Keep in mind almost all Over the Road driving is Paid By The Mile, so the more miles you get, the more money you make. The problem is, the driver doesn't have any say - so in how many miles they get, it's all controlled by the company dispatch office. Short runs and long layovers for that next load; combined with little or no Per Diem layover pay, ( " That's why you have a sleeper -- driver. " ); combined with lumping your load on and / or off the trailer, ( " Didn't I tell you about that ??? Sorry... " ); combined with half - pay for empty miles, ( which is No fault of the driver ), no extra pay for lumping or hanging chains, but no Per Diem for weather - related road closures, ( " It's an Act of God ", despite the weather forecast ), and no extra mileage pay for driving around ( many companies forbid driving around road closures due to weather, especially if they buy the fuel ).
But Wait -- There's More !!! Many OTR trucking companies use the Household Goods Movers mileage guide for their driver pay mileage. The HHG guide uses " City Center to City Center " measurements, such as Los Angeles City Hall, for any location within the city limits; same for Chicago, San Francisco, New York, et al. Lovely... Yes, much of the driver turnover at trucking companies is self - inflicted, but the companies don't ( or WON'T ) see it that way. So it continues; these companies literally DRIVE AWAY their drivers !!!
