At 1140 the train starts across the Saigon River and at 1228 passes the station sign for Cầu Bình Lợi.
When I was stationed in the Saigon area in 1965-66, ocean-going ships carrying ordnance would transload their lading to Mike boats and Vietnamese barges south of Saigon at Nha Be. From there the smaller craft would proceed up the Saigon R. to Cầu Bình Lợi where the cargo was unloaded on both sides of the river and transferred to trucks for final delivery. I was in a Army Transportation Company that furnished cargo checkers at both ends of the operation.
Back then the area was pretty rural and only one bridge, shared by vehicular and rail traffic, crossed the river. Lots of changes have occurred in the last 50+ years, and the place is now unrecognizable, except for the Saigon River.
