"Cult of personality" is a good description of the Trump administration. It is commonly used to describe dictatorships, too, although we are not yet in a dictatorship. I would say the U.S. today is about in a similar position as Czarist Russia in 1905. The aroma and stirrings of a revolution are palpable, but undercooked. In ten to fifteen years it's likely the Republicans will seek to abolish many of the once-sacrosanct pillars of our system of government: free press, separation of powers, the independent judiciary.

Ultimately it will come down to the fact that a lot of people would prefer a dictatorship because, like Realist, they are just really stupid. Once they realize what's happened, it will be too late.
