To quote Harry Callahan: "I'm afraid you've misjudged me....
I don't indict the whole party of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and Reagan for the unique lunacy of the giant Cheeto....
As a public policy professional, who's spent a long career in transportation, from running an engine, to researching travel demand and mode choice, to planning things like carpool lanes, LRT, HSR, "smart shuttles", and doing the math on the costs and benefits of these projects, I have worked with great Republicans like Hal Bernson, Mike Antonovich, ueGeorge Deukmejian, and Sonny Bono in my career who were all honest, open, sensible, and decent people. And none of those folks ever behaved in any way like our giant Cheeto, with his the low morals, childish narcissistic behavior, nor any other outward signs of incipient megalomania or insanity.
Those Republicans I was proud to work with were often great supporters of sound multi-modal transportation options, to meet a complex set of varied travel options, to provide mobility, and try to tame some of our congestion problems, including sound and cost effective rail options. Those folks based their actions on sound planning, good economic value for the taxpayer, and good sense.
I "like Ike", he built the interstates, and he was one of your evil Republicans. But, of course, as with my criticism of the Obama FRA failures on PTC, and the CAHSRA I try to judge these issues and the people behind them, on what they do, who they are, how they behave, and what they've accomplished.
Politics is part of railroading, and the politics of railroading is fair game..... But, those of you on both fringes who troll this site with nonsense to push bull$hit, fringy nonsense, and whine about @#$%& having nothing whatsoever to do with trains, need to follow Graham Buxton's good advice.... Trains?
