Thanks for starting this wonderful thread. There are some very impressive feats of engineering that I had never heard of. I really enjoyed the photos and stories. In Graham Buxton's post, that very, very long ladder that all those men are climbing on is almost unbelievable!

That watch is an incredible piece of high-precision engineering, and is a real work of art. Keeps better time than a modern electronic watch!
