As a Western Pennsylvanian, I am hoping that this purchase would brighten prospects for General Electric's plant in Erie, PA since Wabtec is based in Western Pennsylvania, too. Last year GE announced it would cease all locomotive manufacturing in Erie, but locomotive testing would continue to performed there. Hopefully the locomotive testing will continue in Erie and maybe even some of the manufacturing shifted back to Erie. But the latter is a wish, not supported by any economic or logistical analyses.
