Smother them with identification if you have to. Along with my driver's license, I have with me at all times my BNSF Citizens for Rail Security card, my retired military officer ID, and also my American Red Cross national responder ID. If they still think I'm a terrorist after I show them all this, they really are paranoid.
I guess I've been lucky so far. I was able to get plenty of NJ Transit photos, even at the height of their so-called crackdown, while flying through Newark, N.J. and using the Airport rail station to catch Amtrak for the second leg of my trip. My guess is that they didn't have jurisdiction there, and the New York Port Authority police, who do, didn't think I was a threat.
