I do not really believe paranoia has anything to do with it.
But at the risk of seeming political, Wasn't there a big blame fest not long after 9/11? "Now lets see, on who's watch did this happen?" - most blamed bush - some blamed Clinton - some blamed . . . .
NO politician I know of wants blame for anything bad - So doesn't the "Quick Blame" crowd (ourselves?) just egg them on to go overboard in preventing anything bad. NO one wants to fumble the ball in front of 50,000,000. people. Maybe the UTA wants to seem proactive about it too. They may think it makes them look better - less likely to fumble, etc , etc. . . .
Maybe we have no one to blame for this seeming "paranoia" but ourselves. Maybe we should be more like they are in Europe (where they are more used to terrorism), in that they seem to take it more in stride (like an occasional fumble on the two yard line).
Actually though, now that I think of it, I have never actually heard anyone face to face picking on any politician about it - just media reports of such -
And just media pundits speculating about it - ad nauseum!
The media - The media -
It's the damn media !
