usually such bits bubble up in my brain within a day or so, but not this time
And yes to the total site, and separate ladders. The 1920-ish report by the CA RR Commission, [Grade Crossing Elimination in Los Angeles], available online, probly contains a map/diagram noting the purpose of each yard ca 1917.
The LA Herald say 1910-ish has an article about SP's trial of McKeen car trains [ motor+ 1 car] out of Arcade Station. That's another pic I wish I could see.
