Alf, they pissed off the wrong people in the local government, there was infighting between members, they lost their connection to the outside rail world, they pissed off the county office that owns the rails they ran on, they collected a ton of equipment, and let it sit outside for years, letting pieces deteriorate so badly, it was a surprise that they did not collapse on themselves, the pile of junk got higher, and there was no cleanup around the pile, with rumors of pouring diesel and other chemicals on the ground....
I could go on, but others have already did that on other websites. The totally bad part about all of this is had they put stuff up for sale years ago, other museums would have saved the whole car or used the parts across the nation to fix other rail equipment that was lacking parts. No one makes replacements anymore.
This is a case of how not to run a museum, and for a long time to come, the historical rail community will be talking about it.
